City of Allentown, PA

Proclamation

WHEREAS, the first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution are referred to as the Bill of Rights, which limit and define the powers of government; and

WHEREAS, it is during Bill of Rights Day that we recognize this document's powerful framework for establishing and preserving liberty and justice, enabling us to prosper as a nation and thrive as a people through more than two hundred years of political, social and economic challenges; and

WHEREAS, the Bill of Rights secures our freedom to speak, print, read, assemble, pray, petition the government, keep and bear arms and protects us from unreasonable arrests, searches, excessive bail, double jeopardy, coerced confessions, cruel and unusual punishment and secures our rights to due process, jury trials, counsel and to present defense witnesses and

WHEREAS, Bill of Rights Day reminds elected and appointed officials and employees of federal , state and local branches of the government that their authority and powers are limited; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative that all citizens fully underand the provisions, principles and meaning of the Bill of Rights so they will, with great understanding, defense it at all costs from encroachment.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ED PAWLOWSKI, do hereby proclaim December 15, 2007 as

BIL OF RIGHTS DAY IN ALLENTOWN
