Resolutions of Religious Organizations

The following is a list of religious organizations that have passed resolutions criticizing post-9/11 antiterrorism measures that threaten civil liberties. Please let us know about others we may have missed: info@bordc.org.

National Religious Organizations

• The Unitarian Universalist Association of North America overwhelmingly passed a statement of conscience at their General Assembly in the summer of 2004.
• The Unitarian Universalist General Assembly Passed a resolution at its annual meeting in Portland, OR On June 24: "Stop U.S. Sponsored Torture—A Religious Call to Action."

Regional and State Religious Organizations

• The Canadian Yearly Meeting passed a minute on August 9, 2003.
• The New England Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends passed a minute on August 6, 2003.
• The California-Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church passed a resolution on June 21, 2003.

Local Religious Organizations

• The Farmington (NY) Friends Monthly Meeting passed a minute on March 17, 2005.
• The Chapel Hill Friends Meeting passed a resolution on December 14, 2004.
• The Friends Meeting of Washington passed a resolution on June 13, 2004.
• The Unitarian Universalist Meeting of South Berkshire, Massachusetts unanimously passed a resolution on May 16, 2004.
• The Missoula Friends Meeting approved a minute on February 1, 2004.
• The Morningside Monthly Meeting approved a minute on February 1, 2004.
• The Grand Rapids Friends Meeting passed a minute on December 7, 2003.
• The Philadelphia Yearly Meeting approved a minute on December 3, 2003.
• The Patapsco Friends Meeting passed a minute on November 2, 2003.
• The Unitarian Society of Northampton and Florence passed a resolution on October 26, 2003 (the second anniversary of passage of the Patriot Act).
• The Bridge City Preparative Meeting passed a minute on October 12, 2003.
• The Northampton Friends Meeting passed a minute on August 10, 2003.
• The First Unitarian Church of San Jose passed a resolution supporting the Silicon Valley civil rights campaign and opposing provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act on July 31, 2003.
• The Pondtown Monthly Meeting approved a minute on July 20, 2003.
• The Atlanta Friends Meeting passed a minute on May 18, 2003.
• The Unitarian Universalist Society of Amherst (MA) approved a resolution February 3, 2002.
