The South Bay Coalition to Stop Torture will present a resolution
to the Santa Clara County Human Relations Commission. The resolution
calls on the commission to recommend that the County Board of Supervisors
support federal legislation HR 1352, the Torture Outsourcing Prevention
Act. The coalition came together to oppose and condemn the activities
of a local company, Jeppesen Dataplan, Inc. which, according to media
reports, handles the logistics for the CIA torture flights.
Boston, Massachusetts

A Day of Action procession through Boston, beginning at the ACLU office
and ending at the JFK Federal Building. Participants will be wearing

Several groups have formed a coalition to deliver petition signatures
to Senator Gordon Smith, who voted to abolish habeas corpus, by voting
for the Military Commissions Act. Delivery of petitions will be followed
by a rally and speakers . Groups involved in the rally planning include:
American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon, Bill of Rights Defense Committee,
Community Alliance of Lane County, CAUSA, Code Pink, and the Restore
Habeas student group that collected hundreds of petitions since October
2006.

Brighton, New York
The Rochester Civil Liberties Coalition will present a plaque to the town of Brighton for passing a resolution in March 2007 opposing the abuses of National Security Letters. The presentation will happen as part of an open forum at the June 27 Town Board meeting. The plaque reads, "The Rochester Civil Liberties Coalition recognizes the Brighton Town Board for upholding the U.S. Constitution by vowing to safeguard the privacy rights and other civil liberties of Brighton residents from intrusion by the federal government. July 2007."
Northampton, Massachusetts
Members of the Pioneer Valley Coalition Against Secrecy and Torture dressed up in orange jump suits, which represent Guantánamo detainees, and presented a “Burma-Shave” type sign display on on the Coolidge Bridge during high traffic driving time. An enormous Fourth of July Celebration with speakers, food and music. The Fairbanks Bill of Rights Defense Committee plans to have a booth with buttons, bumper stickers, and leaflets to the public. This year, they are focusing their message on 3 key issues: illegal warrantless wiretapping, Real ID, and Habeas Corpus.

Boulder, Colorado
The Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center will leaflet at a march and rally at noon on the 4th of July and also at Folsom Field before the fireworks in the evening. They'll be handing out flyers encouraging members of the public to continue to call their congressional representatives to co-sponsor one of the many bills that will restore habeas corpus and dismantle the Military Commissions Act.
Denver, Colorado
The ACLU of Colorado hosts an annual 4-mile "Liberty Run, Walk &
Festival of Rights" at Washington Park that attracts 450-500 people.
The celebration includes activities for children and adults including
many different games for kids, teenagers, and adults that highlight
the Bill of Rights and the threat of racial profiling. On display
will be a GrafFREETi Wall created by students decorating stacked boxes,
answering the question, "What Freedom Means to Me."

The ACLUSC will hold a Constitutional Coffee with speaker, Josie Brown, a professor at the USC Law School specializing in constitutional law. She will be discussing the civil liberties implications of recent and upcoming Supreme Court decisions. The Constitutional Coffee Series is an educational outreach program proving a forum for the dissemination and discussion of civil liberties to the general public in a comfortable, friendly and informal atmosphere.
