Introduction
Constitution Day gives us an opportunity to work with schools, allies and community members to highlight the day the U.S. Constitution was signed.
Schools receiving federal funds have been mandated since 2005 to hold educational events teaching the Constitution either on Constitution Day itself (September 17), or during the week before or after.
Please use the links at the top of the page to access materials, resources, ideas for action, public service announcements, and other methods to raise public awareness about Constitution Day in your community.
Remember, you don’t organize Constitution Day events by yourself.
- You have allies—librarians, League of Women Voters, church groups, attorneys, teachers, university and college students, peace and social justice groups, labor organizations, ACLU chapters, and many others – who may already be planning events that you can join. See “Resources” below for other national and local efforts.
- A well-placed ad in a weekly newspaper announcing a planning meeting may bring your local allies to the table.
- Local papers will often run free announcements of such events.
