Support the Bill of Rights Defense Committee!

The Bill of Rights Defense Committee formed soon after Congress passed the USA PATRIOT Act without debate. We took the debate to communities nationwide and encouraged ordinary people to stand up for their rights and for the principles upon which this nation was founded. Since then eight states and 406 local governments have used our organizing strategies and tools to pass resolutions upholding civil liberties of their 85 million residents (one in three U.S. residents). Their votes have “amounted to a national referendum on the balance between fighting terrorism and protecting civil liberties,” according to the New York Times.

Matching Gift Opportunity for Year-end Gifts to BORDC

The Open Society Institute (OSI). OSI has awarded a $40,000 challenge grant to BORDC that matches all first-time donations to BORDC and all increases in gifts over the previous year dollar for dollar. It’s a great opportunity for you to support grassroots civil liberties work and to know that your gift to BORDC will go farther with OSI’s help.

We need your help for the work ahead. Please make a tax-deductible contribution to the BORDC today. Your contribution will help us to:

  • Support a regional field campaign to expand our geographic reach. In October 2007, BORDC placed a full-time organizer in the South. In the coming years, two additional organizers will be placed in the Midwest and in the West.
  • Develop and distribute voter information guides for the 2008 presidential elections, with helpful tips for "bird-dogging" candidates and producing candidate questionnaires on civil liberties issues.
  • Build the skills and knowledge of grassroots organizers across the U.S. through teleconference workshops and dialogues between activists and nationally recognized civil liberties experts.
  • Provide up-to-date news, accurate information, strategies, and ideas to the U.S. public via our web site, www.bordc.org, and e-publications.
  • Develop a central, web-based database of real-life stories for use in public hearings, briefing packets for legislators, and media releases.

Nothing is more critical to guaranteeing our civil liberties than encouraging people to stand up for their rights! Your tax-deductible donation will support our work to organize and educate to defend the protections guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
